Staycationing with Kids

This summer we would love to travel out of town for a week vacation.  However, with small children, a vacation can mean even more work.  As such, this summer, I am looking at having several staycations and home staycations.

What is a staycation? It is a vacation spent locally rather than abroad, or one spent at home that may involve day trips to local attractions.  And a home staycation is when you spend it at home.  The plan is to survey the kids to discover their desires…right now they include:

  • Water balloon fight
  • Ice cream sundae bar
  • At home movie marathon
  • At home facials & manicures
  • Go to  the movies
  • Go to the aquarium
  • Go to the zoo
  • Go to the pool
  • Ride on a train

I am sure they will have more ideas as the week go by. But I think their list is doable and certainly cheaper than what we would spend on a vacation out of town.  The rules for the kid’s staycation will be simple.

  1. No fussing or fighting.
  2. Have fun.
  3. Be safe.
